Streets & Roads Committee

The Streets & Roads Committee was created to assist the Public Works Department with the annual review and future planning for Oronoco Streets & Roads inside the City limits.

Key purposes and responsibilities of the streets and roads committee include:
  • Infrastructure Maintenance and Planning: Overseeing annual paving projects, snow plowing, street sweeping, and developing both annual and long-range capital improvement plans for the road network.
  • Safety and Accessibility: Promoting and recommending policies, often based on "Complete Streets" principles, to enhance safety and ensure access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit riders of all ages and abilities. This can involve traffic calming measures, installing appropriate signage, and ensuring functional crosswalks and streetlights.
  • Funding and Budgeting: Advocating for pavement maintenance funding, identifying potential funding sources (like state or federal grants), and providing input on the transportation department's annual budget.
  • Policy and Standards: Reviewing and recommending local ordinances, policies, and design standards for new roads or subdivisions to ensure they meet community goals and comply with state and federal requirements.
  • Public Input and Community Engagement: Acting as a forum for residents and businesses to voice concerns and provide input on road and transportation issues, such as traffic flow, parking, and public transit services.
  • Right-of-Way Management: Addressing issues concerning public and private rights-of-way, including access over footpaths, public lands, and coastlines.
