Planning & Zoning Committee

The Planning and Zoning Committee works to ensure proper development within the city limits of Oronoco. This includes the maintenance of all planning and zoning ordinances and assists with strategically planning future growth needs for the city. The Planning and Zoning Commission also includes the Oronoco Architectural Control Committee which reviews the construction of new commercial buildings to ensure they meet the aesthetic value necessary to enhance the community. These controls encourage the orderly and harmonious appearance of structures and properties; maintain the public health, safety and welfare; maintain property and improvement values throughout the City and encourage physical development of the City as intended by the General Plan. 

 The committee meets the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM at the Community Center.

To submit an online building maintenance permit application please visit our CMS online permit application Portal

 

Applicants and contractors may submit "Maintenance only" building permit applications online for the following:  Mechanical, Roofing, Siding, Windows and Driveways. *Supporting documentation required for upload: Read PDF here.

 

New Construction, Additions, Remodels, Covered porches, Decks, Detached structures, Commercial Business & Water/Sewer installation MUST submit building permit applications through the City using the "Plan Review" process. Form here: Building Permit Application  Many of these types of construction will require verification of zoning, verification of use and also adhere to all City ordinances and State codes of project development. Recommendations of Variance or Conditional Use from the Planning & Zoning commission or City engineers would also be included in this application process. *Supporting documentation required: Read PDF here.

 Oronoco is one of several communities served by Construction Management Services (CMS) in SE Minnesota.  This role is to administer the current Minnesota State Building code for the city.  This includes all final building plan reviews and on-site inspections.
All commercial and residential plan review/inspections are completed by CMS.
