Oronoco Economic Development Authority (EDA)

Welcome to the Oronoco Economic Development Authority

The purpose of any Economic Development Authority (EDA) is to provide and oversee programs, polices or activities that seek to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for their community. This may look different to each community based on their unrepentant challenges, opportunities and priorities. All EDA meetings are open to the public (See Calendar) and can be found later, on the City of Oronoco’s YouTube page.

The EDA of any community is typically the first stop for all projects related to development as a place to brainstorm and determine next steps. The EDA, when able, takes on the role of an educator to new businesses, entrepreneurs and developers who are exploring the feasibility of their projects and ideas. Homework and research are completed in this organization to ensure that when they are ready to speak with the Planning & Zoning committee or City Council, if needed, they are able to do so with all of the information required to proceed quickly with their projects rather than spending additional time in meetings that are not necessary. The EDA also includes a copy of their detailed minutes in all of the Oronoco City Council Packets to ensure that all local leaders are kept aware of all projects and their status even before being brought to other committees. Once approved, minutes are also located on the EDA’s website for archival purposes and are available to the general public.

All State Statutes related to Economic Development along with state and local Economic Development Authorities can be found in Chapter 469 of the official Minnesota State Statutes. Specifics on the establishment and workings of an EDA can be found in Chapter 469.100.

The Oronoco EDA has partnered with Community and Economic Development Associates (CEDA) to assist the city with keeping projects moving forward between monthly meetings.
