History of Oronoco Senior Citizen's Group

Oronoco Senior citizens was organized in April of 1967. A small group of eighteen Senior Citizens met with Florence Frutiger O'Neill and as a satelite of the Rochester Senior Citizens organizations. In May of 1967, Harriet Allis Glasenapp accepted the leadership of the group. They met twice a month at the Oronoco Presbyterian Church's basement and occasionaly at the VFW Club room. The group grew during Harriet's twelve years of leadership.

On June 1st, 1979, Harriet Glassnapp stepped down and Harold and Elsie Boutelle were asked to be the new leaders. On December 12, 1979, the Seniors took their group to the Oronoco Community Center. They furnished a romm for their meetings and for anyone else needing a meeting place.
Until that time, they were a satellite of the Rochester Senior Citizens. On January 28, 1981, the members voted to withdraw from the Rochester group and become independent with the name Oronoco Seniors Club. As a non-profit organization, they drew up new by-laws. Harold and Elsie Boutelle continued as leaders and Harry and Grace Stolp were advisors.
On March 21, 1991, Carl and Lydia Culver were elected as the new leaders and are leading the group in 2002

The first Mayor of Oronoco, Theodore Johansen donated his piano to the Seniors. He left a trust in his will to the Oronoco Seniors Club which gives the group a fund to be used as the group's needs are expressed and agreed upon.
